FMHC targeted its efforts
to alleviate hunger amongst the Native American children
through three ongoing distribution sites on the Navajo
& Apache Indian Reservations. At these sites food is
distributed approximately once a week by a semi truck
helping to provide food for 2,452 households. 240,385
pounds of Nutritional Food were distributed at
these sites. The clientele consisted mostly of families
with an average of 4 children per family. There are also
many seniors who participate in this program. The food
consisted of fresh vegetables, fruit and dry grocery
products. We continued our Water Barrel project
with over one hundred water barrels being distributed to
families that have to haul their household water from as
far as 20 miles away. In addition to distributing
hundreds of Blankets to the families on the
reservation who have heating problems in their homes we
also distributed hundreds of Sleeping Bags to
them. Also hundreds of stuffed animals and other
children’s Toys were distributed to Native
American children as well as to children from the inner
city of the Phoenix area.
PHILIPPINES
Our support for our
Education projects were the main focus this last year as
we provided scholarships and school supplies to over
1000 needy children throughout the Philippines at our
seven affiliated schools. By upgrading the teacher’s
salaries and implementation of an extensive community
relation program we were able to upgrade our facilities
and the quality of education we are providing.
Our clinic continues to
be a bright light of hope in our strategy to combat
poverty in the area. The family planning programs our
helping people to control the size of there families and
have helped also in dealing with the many domestic
family problems that lead to abusive households which
result in financial strain on the families and
communities.
